New Delhi. After Mahayuti got a huge majority in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, the suspense going on for nine days over the name of the Chief Minister has ended. Sources said that BJP’s veteran leader Devendra Fadnavis, who has emerged as the largest party with 132 seats, will be the Chief Minister, while Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde and NCP’s Ajit Pawar will become the Deputy Chief Ministers.
According to sources, outgoing Chief Minister Eknath Shinde was ready to leave the post of CM (Maharashtra) by accepting the demand of the BJP high command, but due to resentment, he was refusing to become a minister. Finally, after the mediation of BJP leader Girish Mahajan, he has agreed to become Deputy CM. It is believed that Shinde may be given big ministries like Urban Development and Public Works Department, while Ajit Pawar is likely to get the Finance Ministry. The crisis of Mahayuti has been resolved after the meeting of Girish Mahajan and the request of MPs of Shinde group.
Sources said that Shinde will go to Mumbai’s Varsha Bungalow from Thane on Tuesday afternoon and will hold the responsibility of acting Chief Minister for the next three days. By Tuesday afternoon, Mahayuti leaders will go and inspect Azad Maidan, where the swearing-in ceremony is to be held on December 5. Earlier in the day, BJP had appointed Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani as central observers for the Maharashtra Legislature Party meeting.
BJP state president Chandrashekhar Bawankule had said that the swearing-in ceremony of the Mahayuti government in Maharashtra will be held on Thursday, December 5 at 5 pm at Azad Maidan in Mumbai. Prime Minister Modi will participate in this program. Apart from PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda and top leaders of the ruling NDA alliance and all the Chief Ministers of BJP ruled states are likely to attend the ceremony. The winter session of the state legislature is likely to run from December 16 to 24.
