Various religious leaders and organizations have written to California’s Senate Majority Leader Bob Hertzberg asking for his support to legalize the swastika symbol. Officials of the Hindu American Foundation said that history has been created in California with the legalization of the swastika symbol.
Sameer Kalra, managing director of the Hindu American Foundation, said: “We thank Assemblymember Bauer-Kahan for spearheading the movement to legalize the swastika symbol. He urged the Governor to sign this historic legislation to better protect the religious practices of Hindus, Jains, Buddhists and other religions.
Although the swastika became synonymous with Nazism after Adolf Hitler’s rise to power in the 1930s, the swastika was originally an ancient Hindu religious symbol. Except for Hitler, the swastika is considered a sacred symbol throughout the world. The swastika symbol used by Hitler is said to be completely different from the swastika symbol used in India. Hitler is said to have used the swastika symbol which rotates in the opposite direction.
Swastika is a symbol that has been used by various cultures and religions of the world for tens of thousands of years. It is also said that there are many evidences of the use of swastika from the ruins of the ancient city of Troy which existed 4000 years ago. The swastika symbol is also said to be associated with astrology. The swastika symbol represents the constellation of seven stars. The east and west legs of the symbol represent the rising and falling stars and the other two legs the south and north directions.
