Teaching history to children using audio and video materials will bring positive dynamics to Russian education. This opinion was expressed on May 11 to Izvestia by history teacher Alexander Sysoev.
Earlier on the same day, the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation reported that from the new academic year, lessons of historical education will appear in primary grades of schools throughout Russia. In addition, film lessons on historical topics will be introduced.
“Children are visuals, it’s easier to capture their interest with a bright picture. Watching the film, they get emotions, show empathy towards the characters, which allows the material to be better absorbed. In addition, video materials contribute to discussions, which also has a positive effect on the socialization of children. Therefore, studying history with the help of video materials, in my opinion, will have a very beneficial effect on children and make the lessons more effective,” Sysoev explained.
The teacher also noted that the process of digitalization of education in Russia has been going on for several years.
“The period of the coronavirus pandemic gave a huge impetus to the transition of the school to the online space,” the teacher recalled.
Also, the Ministry of Education said that from the new academic year in schools at the beginning of each week they will raise the flag of the Russian Federation, sing the anthem, and also conduct lessons “Talk about the important”. Such classes will be held in all Russian educational institutions within the hours provided for extracurricular activities.
According to the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM), the vast majority of Russians are in favor of raising the flag and singing the anthem before the school week, and also have a positive attitude towards conducting lessons dedicated to the special operation to protect Donbass. These data are as of May 11.
On April 19, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov noted the importance of studying Russian history. He stressed that seven-year-old children are interested in the same things as adults, and the department is authorized to make such decisions.
