Emirates Sports continued its progress in the first Gulf Youth Games hosted by the country until the second of next May, and strengthened its lead in the medal table with 155 colored medals by the end of the sixth day (the day before yesterday). Windsurfing added 11 new colored medals (5 gold, 2 silver, and 4 bronze) to the UAE’s tally in the tournament, with the medals distributed between 53 gold, 57 silver, and 45 bronze.
Saudi Arabia maintained second place with 54 medals (25 gold, 17 silver, and 12 bronze), Kuwait came in third place with 57 medals (14 gold, 21 silver, and 22 bronze), and the Sultanate of Oman came in fourth place with 36 medals (16 gold, 7 silver, And 13 bronze).
Bahrain came in fifth place with 33 medals (9 gold, 11 silver, and 13 bronze), then Qatar came in sixth place with 18 medals (8 gold, 5 silver, and 5 bronze). Today, the official opening ceremony of the tournament will be held at Dubai Opera, which includes three themes: sustainability, cohesion, and youth, through the use of a set of the latest technological techniques and artificial intelligence tools.
The tournament will witness the participation of 3,500 male and female athletes competing in 24 individual and team sports, under the slogan “Our Gulf is One… Our Youth is Promising.”
The handball team wins over Qatar… and Al-Ketbi is the best player
The national handball team defeated its Qatari counterpart with a score of (22-17) in the match that brought them together in the hall of the Al-Bataeh Cultural and Sports Club in the second round of the handball competition, for Al-Abyad to score the first victory, after losing in the first round to Oman, and Al-Abyad goalkeeper Mana Al-Ketbi won the Best player title. The Kuwait national team achieved its second victory, after defeating Bahrain (30-29), raising its score to four points, while the Bahraini Red team lost for the second time in a row.
The Saudi national team continued its victories in the second round by defeating its Omani counterpart with a score of (38-24), raising the Green score to four points with full marks in the first two matches, while the Omani Red score froze at the second point.
Saudi Arabia leads the standings with four points on goal difference over Kuwait.
30 players launch boxing competitions
The boxing competitions begin today, with the participation of 30 players from four countries competing in nine weight divisions at the Mubadala Arena in the capital, Abu Dhabi.
The UAE national team will participate with the largest number of boxers, with 18 players. As for the Saudi, Qatar and Kuwait national teams, each team will participate with four players.
Vice President of the Boxing Federation and head of the national team’s delegation at the Gulf Youth Games, Muhammad Bukhatir, confirmed that all preparations for the boxing team’s participation in the “Gulf Wedding” have been completed, pointing out that the tournament is being held under the supervision of the Asian Football Confederation. He said: “It was decided to hold competitions in nine weights, after limiting the number of participating countries and players in each weight.”
The UAE leads the first day of “Singles Chess”
UAE male and female players topped the first day of the individual rapid chess tournament, which is currently being held in the Sharjah Cultural Club hall, as part of the tournament’s competitions, where three rounds were held.
The UAE U-18 female players monopolized the top three places, with Rawda Al Serkal coming in first place with three points, then Fatima Saif Al Ali with 2.5 points, and Ahlam Rashid in third place with two points, and in the U-14 female category, our player Anoud Issa topped the place. First with three points, and her colleague Shamma Khalfan Al Suwaidi came in second place with two points, equal with her colleague Ohoud Issa in third place. Abdul Rahman Al-Taher received full marks in the three rounds in the U-18 category, giving him the lead with three points, followed by Omani Ahmed Badr with 2.5 points, and UAE national team player Ghaith Al-Nuaimi came third with two points, equal to his teammate Zayed Sultan Al-Taher.
