The UN considers it premature to talk about the participation of the organization in the evacuation of civilians from the Azot plant in Severodonetsk. This was announced on Tuesday, June 14, by the official representative of the Secretary General of the world organization Stefan Dujarric.
“Obviously, whatever the opportunity, wherever we can help with the evacuation of men, women, children, civilians, we will do it. But I will not say that we are a few steps away from this kind of operation, ”Dujarric said at a briefing.
He also commented on the situation in Donetsk, calling it “extremely tense.” He noted that shelling leads to the death of civilians, including children.
Dujarric also stressed that the organization continues to maintain high-level contacts with all parties to the conflict and encourages them to act in accordance with international humanitarian law.
The Russian Defense Ministry on Tuesday announced its readiness to open a humanitarian corridor for the evacuation of civilians from the territory of the plant at the request of Kyiv. It will operate on June 15 from 08:00 to 20:00 Moscow time in a northerly direction to the city of Svatovo of the LPR. At the same time, the Ukrainian side was caught in the ministry in an attempt to withdraw militants from the encirclement under the guise of civilians.
According to Vitaly Kiselev, assistant head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the LPR, as of June 14, there are about 2.5 thousand Ukrainian servicemen on the territory of the enterprise. According to him, about a quarter of the fighters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, about 600 people, are foreign mercenaries, including Polish citizens.
Earlier, on June 11, the republic’s ambassador to the Russian Federation, Rodion Miroshnik, said that the militants demanded that they be given the opportunity to leave the territory of the chemical plant together with the hostages and provide a corridor for crossing to Lisichansk. He added that up to 500 civilians could be on the territory of the plant, hiding from shelling. He called the demands of the militants unacceptable.
Russia continues the special operation to protect the Donbass, the beginning of which President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24. The key goals of the Russian military are the denazification and demilitarization of the Kyiv regime. This is necessary to ensure the security of the Russian state and people. Moscow also emphasized that strikes were being carried out on military infrastructure.
The situation in the region escalated in mid-February due to shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Since 2014, the Ukrainian authorities have been fighting against the inhabitants of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, who refused to recognize the results of the coup d’état in Ukraine.
