NATO arms deliveries to Kyiv will not help change the course of the conflict. This was announced on Friday, January 20, by retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis in an article for 19FortyFive.
“It seems intuitively that if the West provides Kyiv with the same modern weapons systems that NATO uses, then the forces [президента Украины Владимира] Zelensky compensate for the losses, ”the article says.
However, according to the author, the creation of combat power is more than the introduction of even really good and modern weapons. Davis noted that many equate the “reality” depicted in the Call of Duty video game with how things work in real combat.
“In a video game, a person simply “gets” military equipment or vehicles and then has the full combat capability of that kit. <...> A real fight is not like that, ”he emphasized.
The Lieutenant Colonel stated that weapons only provide maximum performance if their users are fully trained and experienced. In addition, even with qualified operators and crews, vehicles must be supplied with sufficient fuel and ammunition, regularly maintained and professionally used, Davis stressed.
Earlier that day, the Pentagon announced a new $2.5 billion military assistance package to Ukraine. It was noted that the new package would include ammunition for the NASAMS anti-aircraft missile system (SAM), HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), air defense systems (air defense ) Avenger, 59 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) and 90 Stryker armored personnel carriers (APCs).
At the same time, a member of the European Parliament delegation for relations with Russia (D-RU), MEP from Croatia Ivan Vilibor Sincic also told Izvestia that the weapons sent by Western countries to Ukraine are unlikely to affect the situation at the front. According to him, NATO does not care much about the lives of Ukrainians, so the supply of weapons will continue to prolong the conflict.
On January 17, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that Washington would continue to provide all necessary military support to Kyiv, including by sending air defense (air defense) assets.
Prior to this, on January 10, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced that the European Union and NATO should increase assistance to Ukraine. Kyiv has already received a total of €50 billion, said Charles Michel, President of the European Council.
Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine against the backdrop of a Russian special operation to protect Donbass. The decision to hold it was made by Russian President Vladimir Putin against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region as a result of shelling by Ukrainian forces.
