Another Chinese balloon was found in the sky over Latin America. This was reported on February 3 by CNN, citing a Pentagon statement.
“We are receiving information about a balloon that flies over Latin America. We estimate this is another Chinese reconnaissance balloon,” Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder said in a statement.
According to the channel, at present, the balloon does not seem to be heading towards the United States.
On the night of February 3, a reconnaissance balloon from China was seen in the sky over the United States. The Pentagon then reported that the device did not pose a danger to the population, and all necessary measures to prevent the leakage of valuable information were promptly taken.
Despite the refusal to shoot down the balloon, according to Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder, the defense department considers the very fact of intrusion into US airspace a violation of international law.
A Pentagon spokesman also indicated that the probe would be over the country for several more days.
The US presidential administration shares the military’s point of view and does not plan to shoot down the aircraft for security reasons.
Many representatives of the Republican Party do not agree with this decision, who believe that the observation balloon of the PRC should be eliminated as soon as possible.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed that the balloon flew from their territory, but noted that it was a civilian airship used in scientific research. The department stressed that they regret the unintentional violation of US airspace and continue to maintain contact with the American side on this matter.
In connection with this incident, it was decided to postpone the visit of Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to China indefinitely.
Meanwhile, on February 3, Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov expressed the opinion that the appearance of a Chinese balloon in the United States could be the beginning of serious changes in relations between countries. According to him, the postponement of Blinken’s trip to Beijing will not end the matter.
