The G7 countries intend to revise the marginal prices for Russian oil in March, said Elizabeth Rosenberg, Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Combating Terrorist Financing and Financial Crime. She made a presentation at the CERAWeek International Energy Conference in Houston on March 7th.
“All I can say is that the G7 plans to revise the price ceiling in March,” she cites her answer to RIA Novosti, refusing to answer other questions on the topic.
At the same time, Rosenberg did not answer the question of whether the United States hopes for a change in Moscow’s position on the conflict in Ukraine as a result of new changes. She could not answer the question about the imbalance of supply and demand in the oil market.
Earlier on March 7, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that Russia does not recognize any ceiling on oil prices, Moscow works so that the system does not harm its interests.
The European Union approved the decision to introduce a price ceiling for Russian oil products on February 4, and it came into force the next day. The participants of the “Big Seven” (G7) approved two price levels for various categories of petroleum products. One of them is introduced for premium oil products, which include diesel fuel, kerosene and gasoline, and the other for such products as fuel oil and gasoline, which are traded at a discount.
Western countries decided to reduce their dependence on Russian energy resources against the backdrop of a special operation of the Russian Federation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced on February 24. However, as a result of such actions of states, everything turned into economic problems in Europe.
