The women’s basketball team is going through a first experience in the history of women’s basketball in the country, heading in the middle of this month to set up an outdoor camp in America, which will last for about two weeks.
The coach of the women’s basketball team, Jassem Abdel-Reda, said: “The camp comes at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and within the strategic plans of the Basketball Association to build a renewed women’s team, capable of honorably representing the UAE basket in the upcoming foreign competitions.”
He explained, “Since the first women’s team won the gold in the Gulf Games last year, the Football Association has developed a clear strategy towards building a team for young women, so that the American camp, with the support of the General Sports Authority, will come within this strategy.”
He added: «The camp includes promising talents from the players of the women’s clubs in the country, who started last Wednesday the stages of the internal gathering at the Sharjah Women’s Sports Club, through training sessions that focus on the physical and skillful sides, until July 16, the date of heading to the American camp held in Washington until the 30th. This month, during which the female players continue to undergo intensive training doses.
He concluded, “A member of the Council of the Basketball Federation and head of the Women’s Activity Committee in the federation, Maitha bin Dhawi, headed the team’s camp mission, and the administrative mission also included Zahra Al Balushi.”
