Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Youth Policy, Deputy Artem Metelev commented on Thursday, January 19, on the proposal to consider a ban on vapes in Russia. According to the deputy, now in the country there is a craze for “electronic” among young people.
According to the parliamentarian, over the past few years, “vaping” has captured the majority of young people.
“You can walk down the street – every third or fourth has these colored whistles, which become a household item. Everyone starts smoking, and everywhere – in cafes, parks, libraries … even in schools. According to those with whom I spoke, every second student smokes right in the corridors, this is unacceptable. Moreover, we do not fully know how harmful these devices are,” the deputy said in an interview with the Zvezda TV channel.
The committee is currently developing initiatives that will limit children’s access to vaping. Metelev noted that in a number of regions vapes for teenagers are prohibited, and components for them are not prohibited. Therefore, it is necessary to understand how all these products enter Russia, as well as to strengthen customs control and licensing.
“And, of course, the promotion of a healthy lifestyle, you need to tell the guys about the dangers of vaping and instill in them a culture of sports, a healthy lifestyle,” he concluded.
The speaker of the lower house of parliament Vyacheslav Volodin announced the day before that the relevant committees of the State Duma were instructed to make proposals on the possible ban on vapes in Russia. He explained the need for such measures by the fact that more and more children and adolescents began to smoke vapes, according to the website kp.ru.
Rospotrebnadzor positively assessed the initiative to ban the sale of vapes at the legislative level, reports RT.
As explained in the department, at present, in accordance with the current legislation of the Russian Federation, retail trade in nicotine or its derivatives (including liquids for electronic nicotine delivery vehicles) is prohibited if its concentration in the solution exceeds 20 mg / ml.
Ekaterina Serebrennikova, a general practitioner at the Doctor Nearby medical technology company, in an interview with Izvestia, noted that the use of vapes and electronic cigarettes adversely affects the development of the brain of children. It can lead to learning disabilities and anxiety disorders. In addition, there is an increased risk that adolescents will become addicted to smoking tobacco-containing cigarettes in the future.
Earlier, in January, deputies of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg proposed to completely ban the sale of vapes and electronic cigarettes. The initiative followed after the death of an eighth-grader, writes Gazeta.ru. According to the results of the examination, the teenager died due to poisoning with an unknown substance.
