New Delhi. According to a report, due to Google’s strict policies, the number of apps available on its Play Store has come down significantly, bringing the total number of apps to the lowest level.
The total number of apps on the Google Play Store has dropped from 360,000 in the past three years to 2.59 million in June, according to data from casinoonline.com. The data shows that there has been a decline in these low-quality apps, but they still have a 37 percent share on the Google Play Store. Statista and AppBrain data show that Android users could choose between 2.95 million apps three years ago. That number is set to drop to 2.7 million by the end of 2021 and continues to fall.
The number of apps stood at 2.64 million in January 2022, a sharp decline of 260,000 in two years. The data suggests that the total number of Google Play apps will increase slightly to 2.65 million by mid-2022, but decline again by 60,000 last year.
As of June, Android users could choose from 2.59 million available apps. This is 12 percent less than three years ago. The number of regular apps is up 63 percent, despite a decline from last year, and low-quality apps still account for 37 percent, the report said.
Google has put a lot of effort into protecting Android users from low-quality apps and helping them find high-quality apps. According to AppBrain data, in June last year, the number of low-quality apps listed on the Google Play Store was around 983,000. Eight months after the new surveillance system was introduced, their numbers dropped to around 947,000.
The report said that apart from the drastic drop in the number of apps available, Google’s Android market share has also come down to its lowest level in seven years.
On the other hand, Android’s closest rival, Apple’s iOS, has increased its market share by one percentage point over the past three years to reach 28.44 per cent in the second quarter of 2023.
