Lucknow. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has approved the Uttar Pradesh Digital Media Policy 2024 in the cabinet meeting on Tuesday. Provisions have been made for strict legal action on posting objectionable or anti-national posts on social media. Under this, punishment up to life imprisonment can be given.
Apart from this, arrangements have been made to give advertisements to agencies and firms working on social media. Till now, action was taken under Section 66E and 66F of the IT Act for objectionable posts on social media. Now the Yogi government has come up with a new policy. Under this, a provision has been made for punishment ranging from three years to life imprisonment if found guilty. Under no circumstances should the content be indecent and anti-national.
Apart from this, the Yogi government has also made a new policy for the information and promotion of government schemes on digital media platforms. Under this, agencies will be listed and advertisements will be given to show content, posts, reels based on government schemes on digital mediums like X, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
For listing (social media) X, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube have each been divided into four categories based on subscribers. Category wise advertising will be given at Rs 5 lakh, Rs 4 lakh, Rs 3 lakh and Rs 2 lakh per month. Apart from this, category wise payment limits for videos, shorts, podcasts on YouTube have been fixed at Rs 8 lakh, Rs 7 lakh, Rs 6 lakh and Rs 4 lakh per month.
