Praseetha’s view that we should live and die happily as long as we live in this world is what inspired us to give a helping hand to Amma. With the blessings of relatives and friends, Rathi Menon, a native of Thrissur Kolazi, and U. Divakaran, a native of Mannutthi Patlikkad, got married at the Tiruvambadi temple. It is noteworthy that Rathi’s daughter Praseetha Vineesh took the helm of her mother’s wedding.
Praseetha is a teacher at Thrissur Shobha Academy. It was Praseetha’s mother Rathi Menon’s 58th birthday two months after her father’s death. Daughter Praseetha was a comfort to Rati who was worried about the death of her husband. At the age of 58, it was the thought of her daughter that there was no need for her to live alone like this, which later changed her mother’s life.
In an interview given to Malayalam, Praseetha said that even then I had in my mind that after a year, my mother should think about marriage. Praseetha was able to spend time with her mother during the online classes due to Covid. But with the opening of schools, mother was alone again.
Rati started having acidity and other gastro problems without being able to spend time with her and take care of her. All the examined doctors after conducting the tests informed that there is no problem. What made Praseetha more distressed was that the doctors prescribed her mother to take sleeping pills, saying that the cause of all this was mental distress due to isolation.
Praseetha decided to end her isolation in her life and give her a new life when she realized that there was no need for her mother, who was only 58 years old, to take sleeping pills and spend the rest of her life. Many thoughts came but he was an acquaintance
When Divakaran’s idea came, Praseetha did not have to think twice. With her husband Veenish Mohan also standing by with full support for everything, everything happened very quickly.
Praseetha says that friends and relatives accepted this decision, but some people in the society came to the question of marrying at this age. But none of those questions deterred Praseetha from making her wish come true. Praseetha says, “I didn’t want to see my mother as an old woman. I want my mother to always remain young. There is no need to stay confined like that in life because of the fear of society.”
The mindset of the society that this is the way to live after a certain age should be changed. God himself created man to help each other. That’s why I wanted my mother to have a cage even at this age,” added Praseetha. Rati’s fear of how the society will think is changed by her son-in-law Vineesh. They completely rejected Rati’s decision to go to an old age home without causing trouble to her children and they married this mother.
Praseetha is happy to hold this mother’s hand and hand it over to Divakaranan, as her father calls her, just like parents hold hands at their children’s weddings. After getting married, Praseetha said that she felt that her mother had become younger again. I felt very happy when I saw my mother’s happiness. My son should grow up watching this. Praseetha says that she is setting an example for the next generation.
Many fathers and mothers will sometimes live happily for the rest of their lives if their children think differently. This was done in order to change the practice of our society of sending the parents who raised them to old age homes. Praseetha says that if everyone starts thinking like this, maybe even old age homes will disappear in our country. This will be an inspiration to many who have lost their partners and are lonely in life. Rathi also has a daughter named Preeti who lives in UK.
