Markets are anticipating Apple holding its annual event on Tuesday, where it is expected to unveil new devices, including the iPhone 15.
The company will publish, via the YouTube platform and its official website, a pre-recorded video clip featuring the company’s executives. Last year’s event lasted about an hour and a half.
The annual event is considered important for the company with the anticipation of holiday sales at the end of the year. 31 million have watched last year’s annual event so far on YouTube.
The technology company hopes that the new iPhones will regain momentum in terms of sales, in light of the worsening competition with Huawei and Android.
The company could provide an update for its new “Vision Pro” virtual reality headset, which it launched in June, earlier than planned in 2024. But more details about this product will likely not be released until next year.
The company is unlikely to unveil new Mac and iPad devices, since the company usually prefers to give them its own events. Last year, it announced new iPads through a separate press release.
Last year, the company announced new iPhones, Apple Watches, and updated AirPods at its September 2022 event.
Here’s what to expect from this year’s event:
iPhone
Apple is expected to launch four new phone models, in line with the pattern that has been in place since 2020. If the company maintains the previous naming, it is expected that its name will be “iPhone 15.”
The company is likely to launch two sizes of mid-range phones, one with a 6.1-inch screen and the other with a 6.7-inch screen, as well as two sizes of high-end “Pro” phones with a titanium casing and better cameras, according to what the British newspaper “Daily Mail” reported and also reports from Bloomberg News and Wall Street analysts.
The biggest change is expected to be the USB-C charging port, replacing the company’s Lightning port, which was introduced in 2012 as an iPhone charger “for the next decade.”
The USB-C charging port on the devices will match the same charging port found on Android phones, newer laptops, iPads, wireless headphones, and other gadgets.
According to a report by the American “CNBC”, seen by “Al Arabiya.net”, this change aims to comply with the new European regulations that require a common charging port. Apple is unlikely to mention that the change was required under a new law, but it will likely emphasize the positives for users, such as convenience and faster charging.
The new ‘Pro’ models could also get a titanium casing, replacing stainless steel, reducing the overall weight of the phones.
The lower-spec phones, expected to be simply called the ‘iPhone 15’, could get a refresh, as they are also likely to focus on camera and chipset improvements as reasons to upgrade.
Apple Watch and accessories
Last year, the company released the Apple Watch Series 8 and a new high-end titanium model called the Ultra in September 2022.
Both may get updates this year, although Apple Watches don’t usually get as many major changes from year to year as iPhones. Mainstream Apple Watches have had the same size and shape since 2018.
The company will likely upgrade the chip inside the new watches, as well as update its health sensors, according to analysts. But Apple may make bigger changes on the occasion of the device’s tenth anniversary next year.
The AirPods Pro will get a new hardware-free feature called Adaptive Audio, which uses machine learning and software to lower the volume and cancel out noise so users can be aware of their immediate surroundings.
“iOS 17”
It is expected that the update will be available to everyone who has an iPhone released since 2018.
These are some of the new features in iOS 17:
- An update to the caller ID screen called “contact posters” where users can choose which pictures appear when calling other iPhone users.
- AutoCorrect is improved using a compiler-based language model, the same technology that powers applications like ChatGPT.
- A new app called “Journal” helps new users save their thoughts and feelings
- A business card replacement called “NameDrop” allows iPhone users to exchange personal information by tapping their phones together.
- Apple’s offline Maps will allow users to save large areas of road and terrain to navigate even without mobile phone service.
