Kochi: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has made the FSSAI license number mandatory in restaurant bills. From October 1, all restaurants and food business operators will be required to have a FSSAI license number or registration number on their cash receipts and invoices.
FSSAI has set up such a system to expedite redressal of customer grievances. Many complaints remain unresolved due to incomplete information in the bills. In such a case, if there is an FSSAI number / registration number, prompt action can be taken against the restaurant that received the complaint. Customers can file a complaint against the operator online using the FSSAI number.

The FSSAI also said it was amending the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) licensing and registration of food businesses. It is mandatory to display the FSSAI number on the labels of currently packaged food products. But in restaurants, ‘food safety display boards’ were made mandatory instead of the FSSAI number.
