Reliance’s Viacom18 acquires digital rights in India. Viacom 18 will pay Rs 20,500 crore to the BCCI over a five-year period. Viacom 18 also owns a package-cine with non-exclusive (weekend matches, special matches). Times Internet acquires Package-D format foreign TV and digital broadcasting rights with Viacom 18. The value of this package is Rs 1058 crore. In total, BCCI earned Rs 23,758 crore in the form of digital rights. Overall, the BCCI will get Rs 118 crore per match.
Ten years from the opening season of the IPL in 2008 to 2017, Sony owned media rights for just Rs 8,200 crore. But then Star will acquire these rights for Rs 16,347 crore for five years from 2018 to 2022. Now, for five years from 2023 to 2027, the price of these media rights will reach Rs 48,390 crore.
A total of 10 teams competed in the IPL 2022 season .. 74 matches were played. Similarly, there will be 74 matches in 2023 and 2024. After that, the number of matches will reach 84 in 2025 and 2026. The BCCI says it will increase the number to 94 in 2027.
