Fights in the world of cumbia continue to generate controversy, this time with statements by Tommy Portugal against Deyvis Orosco. In a recent interview, the singer accused the leader of ‘Nectar ‘ of trying to hinder his musical career and that of his cousin, Bill Orosco, who is seeking to gain notoriety in the genre.
Tommy Portugal attacks Deyvis Orosco and accuses him of trying to sabotage him
Tommy Portugal pointed out that Deyvis Orosco would not only have prohibited his cousin from performing songs from ‘Nectar’ and use his last name, but would also have directly interfered with his own work by trying to block one of his songs. “I released a song that was well received on social networks, but then the composer called me to tell me that Deyvis asked him to download it because he wanted to sing it,” the performer revealed to El Popular.
The performer highlighted the importance of healthy competition in music, mentioning that each artist should focus on their work and let the public choose what to listen to. “Healthy competition is key. One must let the public decide. What he does now with his cousin he has also done with me,” he said.
In recent weeks, tensions between Deyvis and his cousin Bill Orosco have been at the center of controversy. According to Tommy Portugal, the attitude of the ‘Cumbia bomboncito reflects a fear of losing ground in the genre. “Deyvis feels like he’s number one, the king of cumbia, as he always says, but he wouldn’t have to worry about his cousin. Maybe he’s afraid that he’ll take his job or do it better than him,” he commented. “He’s doing very well, but I don’t understand why he’s putting up the rest of the singers,” he added.

Faced with criticism from Andrea San Martín, who called Deyvis Orosco an “egomaniac” for sending a notarized letter to his cousin, the singer initially avoided responding directly, but finally offered a brief statement: “I’m used to being talked about, “I want people to draw their own conclusions.” When asked if he would allow Bill Orosco to continue performing songs from the Nectar Group, Deyvis forcefully expressed: “The truth is that all of this is unfortunate,” making his position on the controversy clear.
