Cumbia singer Tommy Portugal appeared on the Willax TV program, ‘Un día en el mall’, where he opened up about his relationship with his daughter Mafer, lead singer of the You Salsa orchestra, after a two-year estrangement. The reunion took place at the ‘Reventonazo de la Chola’ end-of-year program, where both, despite the legal and personal tensions that have marked their relationship, decided to leave the bad times behind.
Mafer Portugal who a few years ago was at the center of controversy for demanding recognition of paternity from his father, has shown a more open and warm side, which allowed the opening of a door to reconciliation.

During the interview, Tommy expressed his feelings about his daughter’s criticism of him, highlighting that he would like Mafer to also say good things about him. “I would also like her to not only say my mistakes, mistakes that I could have made,” commented the singer, visibly affected by the situation.
The conversation was interrupted by the hosts of the program, who highlighted that Mafer had publicly praised his legacy as one of the greatest exponents of cumbia. “Just now, he just said it,” was Tommy’s response, showing that the relationship still has certain wounds from the past.

Tommy also reflected on his own youth experience and how he understood that his father, despite his limitations, always wanted to give him the best. “Maybe at some point I thought that my dad couldn’t give me something I wanted. Now I realize that my dad always wanted to give me everything,” Portugal shared.
Although he acknowledged that he was not the best father at certain times, he assured that he was always responsible for Mafer from day one. “Since I met you, I took responsibility and, well, I always wish you the best. You know,” he expressed with an emotional tone.
