The temperature is around 14 degrees in the north to locally even 17 degrees in the southeast of the country. “But unfortunately we have to disappoint you,” meteorologist Berend van Straaten immediately suppresses the first spring fever.

The temperature is considerably higher than the temperatures we had to deal with last week and it is also a lot milder than normal for the time of year. In mid-March, 9 or 10 degrees are common daytime values. Although a southwest wind carries very soft air to our country, the wind also increases considerably in strength. “The terraces in Breda, for example, were quite full on Saturday, but I can’t imagine that will be the case tomorrow,” says fellow meteorologist Raymond Klaassen.
Showers will move across our country tonight and in the early morning. “The afternoon is more often dry and the sun shines now and then, but it won’t be pleasant,” says Van Straaten. There is a strong, sometimes even stormy wind. Heavy gusts of wind up to 95 kilometers per hour can occur in the coastal areas.
The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) has issued code yellow for the northwest and north of the country. The warning applies in the provinces of North Holland (from 09:00), Friesland (from 10:00) and Groningen (from 12:00). According to the KNMI, traffic and outdoor activities may be affected by the wind gusts. The strong wind disappears again from the end of the afternoon.
‘March stirs his tail’
Tuesday will also be turbulent with a chance of strong gusts of wind. We won’t keep it dry either because it is a coming and going of a few showers. During the day, the chance of some wet snow or hail increases. “At the beginning of the week, we will be going in all directions again regarding the weather. With this, ‘March is stirring its tail’ again,” says weatherman Van Straaten.
On Tuesday and Wednesday the temperature drops again to 7 or 8 degrees. Inland, the night can start with a degree of frost in sheltered places and the window scraper is probably necessary again here and there. “It is too early to announce spring,” says Klaassen. “After a fresh midweek temperature dip, it will become softer again towards the weekend. It remains changeable and there is still no question of stable spring weather.”
