After the earthquakes that destroyed several cities in Turkey and Syria on February 6, many of their residents were forced to leave their homes. Eyewitnesses told Izvestia that people are moving to the mountains and villages, where there are more one-story buildings.
The Russians who were in Turkey at that moment told Izvestia how they felt this natural disaster.
“In general, we live in a seismically safe region, but at night I woke up from the fact that I was very staggering on the couch. The feeling was twice as strong as when he was rocking on the top shelf in a reserved seat. I didn’t understand what it was … I didn’t believe in the earthquake, I thought it was a strong wind, ”Russian Elena, who lives in Mersin, told Izvestia.
About 100 km from Mersin is the city of Adana, where there was major destruction, and the sea overflowed its banks, the girl added.
“Some of our neighbors grabbed children, loaded things into cars and left. We later learned that the locals prefer to wait out the elements in the mountains with relatives. They believe that it is safer there now, since there may be more earthquakes in a few days,” Elena said.
She herself decided not to leave, but packed a bag with documents, money and warm clothes.
