Haryana’s Ganesh Namazjana celebrations erupted into disharmony. Seven people lost their lives due to drowning during Ganapati immersion. Three died in Sonipat and four in Mahendragarh. Vinayaka Chavithi celebrations started on August 31 across the country and went on for ten days and ended on Friday. On this occasion, idols were immersed in the nearby ponds, rivers and canals during a huge procession. In this sequence, three people drowned at Mimrapur Ghat in Sonipat, who had gone for vinayaka immersion. Father, son and nephew died in these incidents. Three people lost their lives as the locals tried to save them in vain.
Police recovered the dead bodies, registered a case and sent them for post-mortem. Also, when nine went for Ganesh immersion in the canal near Jhagadoli village of Mahendragarh, they were washed away due to the high flow. Out of them eight people were taken out and four have already died. Haryana Chief Minister Manoharlal Khattar expressed deep regret over these incidents. He promised to stand by the affected families during the difficult time. He said that he prayed for the speedy recovery of all those rescued by NDRF personnel in the accident.
Restrictions on Ganesh celebrations continued for two years due to the spread of Corona virus. But, this year, as the Covid-19 has declined and is under control, it was held grandly after two years. The celebrations continued amid much jubilation across the country.
