New Delhi: The party has released a list of 48 candidates contesting on behalf of the BJP in the Tripura Legislative Assembly elections.
Elections to the 60-seat Tripura Legislative Assembly will be held on February 16 in a single phase. The counting of votes will be held on March 2.
BJP came to power in Tripura by winning 36 seats in the last election. The party is showing seriousness to retain the rule here in the upcoming elections.
In this case, the party released the list of 48 candidates, including 11 women, who will contest on behalf of the BJP in the Tripura elections yesterday.
According to this, all but one of the current ministers have been given a chance. 6 of the sitting MLAs were not given re-election. The party did not give any reason for this.
Chief Constituency: Chief Minister Manik Saga is contesting from Portowali constituency. Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhowmik has been announced as the candidate from her home constituency Thanpur. In the last election, he lost to the then chief minister and senior Marxist leader Manik Sarkar in this constituency. However, Manik Sarkar did not contest the election this time.
Marxist MLA Moboshar Ali, who joined BJP yesterday, has been posted in Kailashagar constituency.
10 separate module: BJP is yet to announce candidates for Agartala, Suryam Nagar and 10 separate (ST) constituencies. The BJP is hoping that the tribal parties including Dibra Motha and IPFT can come to an electoral alliance. BJP has reserved 10 separate constituencies for these parties. A senior leader of the party said that the BJP will announce its candidates for these constituencies too if no alliance agreement is reached.
BJP came to power in Tripura for the first time in 2018. This ended 25 years of Marxist rule there. This time the Marxist party is contesting in an alliance with the Congress.
Meanwhile, the Congress party has also released a list of 17 candidates for the Tripura elections.
In Tripura, apart from BJP and Marxist alliance, Trinamool Congress is also contesting the elections.
