WASHINGTON (AA) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in New York last night to attend the high-level meetings of the 78th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, reports Anadolu.
The Turkish president was welcomed at John F. Kennedy” by Turkey’s UN representative, Sedat Onal, US ambassador Hasan Murat Mercan, and New York Consul General Reyhan Ozgur.
Erdoğan was accompanied to New York by First Lady Emine Erdoğan, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan, Minister of Finance Mehmet Şimşek, Minister of Energy Alpaslan Bayraktar, Minister of Trade Omer Bolat and head of the National Intelligence Service Ibrahim Kalin.
Erdogan is scheduled to address a UN meeting on Tuesday.
During his speech, he is expected to highlight the steps Turkey has taken, from development to humanitarian aid, as well as its contribution to maintaining international peace and security, while establishing global solidarity.
“We will also highlight the key role Turkey plays towards current global challenges,” Erdogan told reporters before departing Istanbul.
He will also have meetings with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and his colleagues on the sidelines of the General Assembly.
Erdogan will meet with members of the Turkish-American community, as well as with representatives of research organizations and American business leaders.
This year’s debate is expected to bring together over 150 heads of state and government.
Erdogan’s scheduled activities continue until Wednesday.
