San Francisco. Micro-blogging platform Twitter is reportedly testing a new verification process for its Blue subscribers, which will involve submitting a government ID. Code-level insights from product intelligence firm Watchful.ai have revealed how users submit a photo of their ID, combined with a selfie photo, to authenticate their Twitter account, TechCrunch reports. .
However, it is still unclear whether the feature is being tested externally or not.
According to the firm, the feature is under testing in the US, where it was found in the Android version of the Twitter application.
Adding a photo ID and selfie requirement to Blue’s verification process will help crack down on impersonation.
Users are advised by the micro-blogging platform that the new verification process will take approximately three minutes to complete and that their photo and personal information will be shared with a third party to verify their identity.
The report states that this means that the platform is partnering with a company to handle the authentication process instead of managing it directly.
After launching Twitter Blue with verification service in India last month that starts at Rs 650 per month, CEO Elon Musk reiterated that all old blue badges will be removed soon.(IANS)
