New Delhi . Twitter has announced to restrict direct messages (DMs) to unverified accounts in a bid to reduce spam on the platform.
The company said it would be implementing some changes soon “in our effort to reduce spam in Direct Messages”.
“Unverified accounts will have a daily limit on the number of DMs they can send,” the company said.
To send unlimited DMs, a Twitter user will now have to pay for a Twitter Blue subscription.
However, Twitter did not specify what the daily DM limit could be. The changes will come into effect from Friday.
Last week, the micro-blogging platform added a new messaging setting to help reduce the number of spam messages in DMs.
When the new setting is enabled, messages from users you follow will be sent to your primary inbox, and messages from verified users you don’t follow will be sent to your message requests inbox.
“Users who previously had their permissions set to allow message requests from everyone will be moved to this new setting, but can switch back at any time,” the company said.
Earlier, Musk had put a “temporary” rate limit on tweet reading. (IANS)
