Twitter users were surprised by the statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that if the US handed over the Abrams tanks by August, it would be too late. They left their comments on the social network on Sunday, January 29.
Zelensky complained about the delayed delivery of tanks by the Americans in an interview with Sky News.
Many users drew attention to the contradictions in the statements of the Ukrainian leader, who constantly talks about the imminent victory of Ukraine, but at the same time is terribly afraid of not getting help in time.
“But he refuses the world because he allegedly wins!” — said one of the commentators.
A similar opinion was expressed by an arc user. “Very like a surrender out loud,” he wrote.
In another comment, Zelensky was asked to think about making peace with Russia as soon as possible. “Maybe now is the time to think about a ceasefire and peace talks?” – written in the comments.
Some users have pointed out that whenever the delivery of tanks does not take place, it will not be able to seriously help Ukraine, since Russian troops will prevail in any case.
“Even if Abrams tanks are delivered tomorrow, they will not change anything,” wrote one of the commentators.
Another reader agreed with him.
“The sooner the tanks arrive, the sooner the Russians will neutralize them. This will badly affect the reputation of NATO,” he wrote.
US President Joe Biden announced the delivery of 31 M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine on January 25. Later, the White House clarified that it would take many months, and the delivery could be made before the end of the year.
At the same time, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called Washington’s plan to send Abrams a failure in terms of technological aspects.
On January 26, the Politico newspaper reported that the United States would send modern M1A2 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, but in an export version, without special secret armor.
Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine after the start of the Russian special operation to protect Donbass. The decision was made by Russian President Vladimir Putin against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian military.
