New Delhi. Ahead of removing all legacy blue tick marks on April 20, Twitter on Friday introduced a feature that allows posts of up to 10,000 characters for paid Blue subscribers. The company said that Twitter now supports tweets of up to 10,000 characters with bold and italic text formatting.
In February, the micro-blogging platform introduced 4,000-character-long tweets for Blue subscribers.
To use these new features, sign up for Twitter Blue and apply to enable membership on your account to earn income directly on Twitter, the Elon Musk-run company said. Tap on ‘Monetization’ in Settings.
Musk announced on Thursday that ‘subscriptions’ are now enabled on the platform, a way for people’s most engaged followers to help Twitter earn money for their contributions to the platform.
Musk posted, “We’re rolling out Creator Subscriptions at scale! Works for long form text, pics, or videos.”
The decision to introduce 10,000-character-long tweets has been taken as Twitter is embroiled in a battle with popular subscription newsletter platform Substack.
Substack hit back at Twitter for blocking the ability to like or retweet any post containing the word ‘Substack’, saying the whole situation is ‘very disappointing’.
The company’s CEO, Chris Best, responded to Musk with a post on Substack Notes, stating that Substack links on Twitter have apparently been blocked.
Twitter’s move poses a major problem for Substack writers, who use the Musk-run platform to promote their newsletters.
