New Delhi. Twitter said on Tuesday that it has started labeling tweets that have been flagged for violating its rules, in order to reduce their visibility on the platform.
The micro-blogging platform said last week that it would label malicious tweets that violate its policies.
Twitter said, “Censorship. Shadowbanning. Freedom of speech, no access. Our new labels are now live.”
The platform previously said it was adding more transparency to the enforcement actions it takes on Tweets.
“As a first step, you will soon begin to see labels on certain Tweets that have been identified as potentially violating our rules around hateful conduct, letting you know that we have limited their visibility. “
These actions will only be taken at the Tweet level and will not affect a user’s account.
The company said that restricting access to tweets helps reduce the binary ‘leave up vs take down’ content moderation decisions that support our freedom of speech vs freedom of access.
The company said this can sometimes be inaccurate, so authors will be able to provide feedback to the label if they believe we have unfairly limited the visibility of their content.
“In the future, we plan to allow authors to appeal our decisions to limit the visibility of Tweets,” the company said.
