Since the beginning of 2023, 17 people have died in fires in the Orenburg region, including two children. This is reported by the regional GU EMERCOM of Russia.
A total of 271 fires were recorded in January. Fires occurred in residential buildings and abandoned buildings, baths, sheds, cars also burned, writes 56orb.ru.
“Over the past period, the number of fires has increased by 30%, dead people – by 70%, children – by 100%. The number of injured people has doubled,” the Ministry of Emergency Situations said in a statement.
17 people died, including two children. Another 15 people were injured, one of them a child. According to news agency “Ural56.Ru”, the main causes of fires were violations of fire safety requirements when using stove and electrical equipment, as well as careless handling of fire when smoking.
The agency also writes that 76 fires occurred in the region only on New Year’s weekend. 10 people died, five times more than in 2022. Another five people were injured.
