Mumbai: Diana Edulji, the former captain of the Indian women’s cricket team, said that the players from the Under-19 team had better fielding than the players of the Indian senior women’s cricket team.
In the semi-final of the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup series, the Indian women’s team lost to Australia in the semi-final match. The main reason for this defeat was the miss fielding done by the Indian players in the field. Diana has criticized it in this context.
“I can see that the under-19 players are fitter than the Indian senior players. They fielded well too. From 2017 to 2023, the Indian senior women’s team has been writing the same story over and over again.
BCCI needs to make a proper assessment on fitness. The Yo-Yo Test is a bit tougher for women. I know that. Most will fail that test. But there are other ways to ensure fitness standards.
After this failure, restoration must be done. First ensure fitness. Fielding quality, runs between the wickets etc. should be focussed. Stardom never pays off. “We are losing the match we should win,” he said.
