BCCI is working to finalize the IPL 2023 schedule. While the league is likely to start on April 1, there is a chance that the final will be held on Sunday, May 28. As the World Test Championship final is scheduled to begin on June 8 at the Oval, BCCI has moved the date of the IPL final one week ahead. The board has decided to hold the IPL for 74 days. But before the start of the Mega League, India will face Australia in a series of 4 Tests and 3 ODIs till March 22. BCCI hopes to hold IPL for 58 days. BCCI will officially announce the IPL schedule in the first week of February. “Final stage discussions are going on regarding the IPL schedule. The schedule will be released in the first week of next month. After finalizing the women’s IPL teams, the IPL GC will be held. The IPL schedule will be finalized in that meeting. As the WTC final is in the second week of June, we want to end the IPL by the end of May. We are planning to start the league on April 1,” said a senior BCCI official. BCCI had earlier decided to start IPL 2023 on April 1 and hold the final in the first week of June. But the WTC changed the plan in the wake of the final. If India beat Australia by 3-1 or 2-0 or more margin in the Border Gavaskar Trophy, they will reach the WTC final. Then India will have to play the WTC final on English soil the week after the IPL final.
