The 17th UAE Fitness Championship for People of Determination will kick off tomorrow, under the patronage of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, and organized by the Emirates Autism Center on the sidelines of “World Autism Day,” which falls on April 2 of each year.
More than 500 players of determination from 55 centers and schools that include people of determination at the state level participate in the tournament, including 17 centers for the care and rehabilitation of people of determination (7 from government centers and 10 from private centers for people of determination at the state level) and 38 schools that include people of determination. The most important ones are (29 government schools and 9 private schools).
The Sports Championship for People of Determination aims to shed light on the category of people with autism spectrum disorder to raise awareness of society as a whole and accept and appreciate their individual differences to enable them to be active members of society and highlight the role of social responsibility and the role of individuals, institutions and state bodies in supporting them, as the prevalence of the autism spectrum is low, as explained by the World Health Organization. In its latest release in 2024, it has reached one case in every 100 children. It appears in early childhood, before the age of three years, and results in deficiencies in verbal and non-verbal communication and deficiencies in social interaction, accompanied by some repetitive behaviors.

The Center also extended its thanks and appreciation to Al-Jazira Sports Club, which is hosting the tournament in the Grand Indoor Hall.
