UAE Team Emirates rider, Australian champion Jay Fine, won the fourth stage of the Vuelta a Burgos in Spain.
Jay Fine took to the track at breakneck speed, clocking a thrilling 19 minutes and 51 seconds, and an average speed of 55.9 km/h during the time trial from Santa Maria del Campo to Pampliega.
This is his first victory since suffering multiple vertebral fractures in an accident in the Yzeulia Basque Country Race last April.
“I feel great,” Fine told reporters after the race. “I’m really happy with the strength of my legs, especially for my first race back from the injury. It’s been a long journey back since the accident. My wife has been so supportive and patient throughout, and the team has been in constant contact to try to prepare me and help me get back on track. Just four months ago I was in intensive care, not far from here, and to be back and standing on the top step of the podium now is amazing.”
Finn Fischer Black is now third in the general classification, 34 seconds behind leader Sepp Kuss (Visma Lab), ahead of today’s final stage from Frias to Condao de Trivino, a 156km ride.
