UN Secretary-General António Guterres and High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell held a meeting during which they discussed the situation in Ukraine. This was announced on Sunday, September 18, by the official representative of the Secretary General of the world organization Stefan Dujarric.
“The Secretary General met with the head of the EU Foreign Service, Josep Borrell,” the statement said.
According to the report, the parties discussed the regional and global implications of the situation around Ukraine.
They also discussed the situation in Africa, the statement says.
Earlier, on September 17, Guterres announced the topics of the meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. It is reported that the issues of the “product deal” and the export of Russian food and fertilizers will be raised. On September 14, the UN Secretary General also discussed these topics with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The special military operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, continues. The decision to hold it was made against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military, in connection with which the authorities of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics turned to Moscow for help.
