Unbeaten two-year-old filly Desert Flower, owned by the world-class Godolphin team, is looking to win the Group 2 May Hill Stakes over 1600 metres of turf, which takes place today at the prestigious Doncaster Racecourse in Britain.
The filly, who is by Night Of Thunder and trained by Charlie Appleby, has been in fine form at Newmarket’s July track, winning comfortably in July before securing a sweeping six-and-a-half-length victory in early August.
Desert Flower faces nine of the best two-year-old fillies in the British racing season in the May Hill Stakes, including the most experienced filly, Flight, trained by Ollie Sangster, who is coming off a deserved victory at the end of August by four lengths.
Experienced Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien is also pushing the fillies “Ecstatic” and “January”, who are coming off a victory in their last participation last August, with the aim of competing for the title.
Godolphin trainer Charlie Appleby commented on Desert Flower’s preparations, saying in press statements: “Desert Flower has won her only two starts in good style, and we feel she is on the right track. We hope that increasing the distance will bring her further improvement, which is required at this level.”
“Her recent preparations have gone well and we look forward to seeing how she will perform at this level, as will most of the fillies competing for the race title,” he added.
