Lucknow: The famous Gorakhnath Temple is located in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. The Chief Minister of the state, Yogi Adityanath, is the abbot of the temple. He had planned to tour the temple in April last year.
A day before his trip, on April 3, a mysterious person entered the Gorakhnath temple with a weapon and suddenly attacked policeman Anil Kumar, who was on security duty. The police nabbed the suspect.
Investigation revealed that the suspect who carried out the attack was Ahmed Murtaza Abbas of Gorakhpur. He graduated in Chemical Engineering from IIT Mumbai in 2015 and received I.S. Inspired by the terrorist organization.
The case was heard by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Lucknow. Justice Vivekananda Charan Tripathi heard the case in 10 months and delivered the judgment yesterday. Accordingly, the accused Ahmed Murtaza Abbas was sentenced to death.
His side is planning to appeal the verdict to the High Court.
