The explosion of a vehicle on one of the bridges that cross the border between the United States and Canada, in the Niagara Falls region, this Wednesday (22) caused the closure of this and three other crossing points between the two countries .
At least two people died in the incident, according to the American press.
The cause of the explosion has not yet been determined by authorities. The FBI’s regional office in Buffalo, New York, said in a post on X that the agency was coordinating actions with local, state and federal authorities to investigate the explosion.
“As the situation is very fluid, this is all we can say at this time,” the FBI says in the post.
The state’s governor, Democrat Kathy Hochul, said she was informed of the incident and is closely monitoring the situation, adding that “state agencies are on scene and ready to assist.”
The White House says it is “closely monitoring the situation at the U.S.-Canada border.”
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in the country’s Parliament on Wednesday that the vehicle explosion represented “a very serious situation.”
