The private Embraer Legacy 600 plane crashed on Wednesday near the village of Kozhinkino in the Tver region on its way from Moscow to St. Petersburg, killing all 10 people on board, including seven passengers and three crew members.
A video clip showed the plane descending rapidly with its nose almost straight towards the ground and a column of smoke or steam behind it.
Russian investigators opened a criminal investigation to determine the circumstances of what happened. Sources who did not reveal their identity told Russian media that the plane came down after being hit by one or more surface-to-air missiles.
