New York: Djokovic defeated Medvedev in the men’s singles final of the ongoing US Open tennis series. This is his 24th Grand Slam title.
Djokovic won the match 6-3, 7-6(5), 6-3 in New York City, USA. The match started today at 1.40 AM IST. The match was held for more than 3 hours and 20 minutes.
After winning the title, Djokovic paid his tribute to American basketball player Bryant (Kobe Bryant), who died in 2020, by changing the jersey he was wearing. His jersey number is 24. He was referring to his 24th Grand Slam title by pointing to that number.
“My parents have sacrificed a lot for me to play. I want to thank them,” Djokovic said after the win. Djokovic has won three Grand Slam titles this year: Australian Open, French Open and US Open.
“What are you still doing here Djokovic. I have won 20 Grand Slam titles. You have won 24 titles. The rivalry between the two of us is healthy,” said Medvedev.
