US tech companies back White House measures for AI

Washington (EFE).- The large US technology companies have accepted the security measures on the development of artificial intelligence (AI) proposed by the White House, the US government announced this Friday.

Amazon, Anthropic, Google, Inflection, Meta, Microsoft and OpenAI, companies that are developing AI technologies, have pledged to take “immediately” measures to ensure that “innovation does not come at the expense of the rights and safety of Americans,” the White House said in a statement.

The voluntary agreement means that the seven companies agree to carry out internal and external tests of their AI systems before making them public, as well as share information with other companies, governments, civil society and the academic world on the management of the risks involved. the AI.

In addition, US technology companies will develop AI systems with security as a priority and will offer guarantees to the public with the labeling of AI-generated content, research on the risks it poses to society and the development of systems that “help respond to the greatest challenges” of humanity.

Development and use of AI

President Joe Biden’s Administration also said it is working to translate voluntary commitments by US companies into a “robust international framework to govern the development and use of AI,” adding that it has already consulted with countries including Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, India, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Mexico and the United Kingdom.

Since OpenAI released the ChatGPT system to the public, scientists, politicians and philosophers, as well as human rights organizations, have warned of the threat that AI can pose to humanity.

On Tuesday, member countries of the UN Security Council highlighted the dangers of a military application of artificial intelligence.

In this sense, the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, reiterated that the future development of artificial intelligence (AI) must be “governed” by an entity dependent on the United Nations.
