New York (EFE).- Google presented to some of the main US media -such as The New York Times (NYT), The Washington Post and the company that owns The Wall Street Journal- a tool that uses intelligence technology artificial intelligence (AI) to write news called Genesis, according to the NYT.
This new generative AI tool, which has yet to be officially unveiled by Google, according to the newspaper, has the working title of Genesis, and can take information – such as current event data – and generate news articles.
Google’s goal would not be for its tool to take the job of a copywriter, but to help journalists “improve their work and productivity.”
“In partnership with news publishers, especially smaller ones, we are in the early stages of exploring ideas to potentially offer AI-enabled tools to help journalists with their work. For example, AI-powered tools could support journalists with options for headlines or different writing styles, ”Google spokeswoman Jenn Crider explained in a statement she sent to various media outlets.
News and AI, a relationship yet to be explored
Some executives who saw Google’s speech described the product to The New York Times as “disturbing.”
For its part, a spokesman for News Corp, the company that owns The Wall Street Journal, said in a statement to the NYT: “We have an excellent relationship with Google and appreciate the long-term commitment of its CEO Sundar Pichai to journalism. ”.
For some time now, various American media have used AI tools to automate their news, the AP news agency, for example, uses this technology to write information on business results.
For now, the biggest problem with AI chatbots – such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Bard and Microsoft’s Bing – is that they can give information that is not true in their responses, a mistake known as “hallucinations”.
