The match between Vasco and Goiás, this Thursday (22), at the São Januário stadium, for the Brazilian Championship, ended in turmoil.
After the 1-0 defeat, Vasco fans threw cups, cans and flags inside the field.
According to the Rio de Janeiro Military Police, it was necessary to reinforce policing in the region of the stadium, in the north zone, but the turmoil was contained.
The players left the lawn escorted by police and were trapped in the locker rooms for security reasons. To contain the confusion, the PM threw stun bombs and used pepper gas inside and outside the stadium.
As fans left São Januário, it was possible to hear the explosion of bombs with moral effect. There was a rush and some fans reported hearing gunshots. Cars parked nearby were damaged.
The result makes coach Maurício Barbieri’s team, one of the main targets of criticism, remain in the penultimate position of the Brazilian, with six points. Barbieri was sacked after the defeat and turmoil.
On Wednesday (21), the match between Santos and Corinthians, played in Vila Belmiro, for the 11th round of the Brazilian Championship, was ended by referee Leandro Pedro Vuaden before the end of regular time after Santos fans threw rockets and flares on the lawn .
The home team lost 2-0 when, 44 minutes into the second half, the referee understood that there were no more security conditions to continue the confrontation and declared the duel over.
This Thursday, coach Odair Hellmann was fired from Santos. On the same day, the STJD (Superior Court of Sports Justice) determined that the club will send its games behind closed doors for 30 days.
