A house in the city of Arlington (Virginia)less than 10 kilometers south of the US capital, exploded in flames on Monday night as police attempted to search the property.
The Arlington County Police Department reported on its X platform account, formerly known as Twitter, that several of its officers approached the scene to investigate a suspect for having fired a flare gun from the house.
The subject refused to cooperate and allow the agents to enter and shot several times “inside the house,” the Police detailed in X. Later, around 8:00 p.m. local time, the house exploded. “I think the whole duplex exploded,” a neighbor told local media ARLnow. “I’m sure the family next door was evacuated before the explosion, but they lost their home,” he added.
Firefighters arrived at the scene at 8:45 p.m. local time, according to police. Residents of Arlington, Virginia, across the Potomac River from Washington, have been told by the local government to stay indoors for the time being.
