Three satellites were sent to Ningi by this rocket. One of them is domestic and two are foreign satellites. ‘Fun-Sat’ is one of the 2.5 kg small satellites developed by Chennai-based aerospace startup Spacekids. The entire experiment was completed in 300 seconds. The rocket was named ‘Vikram-S’ as a tribute to the father of Indian space, Vikram Sarabai. As it is the first private mission undertaken by India, it is called the initial mission.
Skyroot is the first startup to sign an MoU with ISRO to launch private rockets. Apart from Desi’s first private launch, this is Skyroot Aerospace’s first mission. This organization was started in 2018 by former ISRO scientists Naga Bharat Dhaka and Pawan Kumar Chandan.
The Vikram series consists of three rockets in total. Vikram-1 was designed to carry small satellites into low Earth orbit. It can carry satellites weighing 450 kg. Vikram-2,3 rockets are designed by Skyroot Aerospace to carry heavy payloads. ISRO has taken up the latest launch with an aim to encourage the participation of private companies in space missions.
