New Delhi. Indian female wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s hopes of winning a silver medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 have suffered a major setback. The International Council of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) has rejected Vinesh Phogat’s appeal. The Court of Arbitration for Sport has upheld the decision of the International Olympic Committee in this matter.
Actually, Vinesh Phogat was disqualified in the final of freestyle wrestling in the 50 kg category at the Paris Olympics (Paris Oympic 2024) due to being 100 grams overweight. After which Vinesh had demanded a silver medal, saying that she had won three consecutive matches. Now the CAS decision has come in this matter, in which Vinesh Phogat’s appeal has been rejected and the silver medal has been refused.
At the same time, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha has expressed surprise and disappointment over the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS)’s decision to reject Vinesh Phogat’s application. She has said, ‘I am shocked and disappointed by the decision of the sole arbitrator of the Sports Tribunal on Vinesh Phogat’s appeal filed against United World Wrestling and the International Olympic Committee.
The effective part of the August 14 decision rejecting Vinesh Phogat’s application for a shared silver medal in the women’s 50kg category at the Paris Olympics 2024 Games has significant implications for her in particular and the sports community at large.
