Real Madrid confirmed this Monday (28) that striker Vinicius Junior suffered a muscle injury in his right thigh, after the Brazilian left the field in pain in Madrid’s victory over Celta Vigo in the Spanish Championship, on Friday ( 25).
Vinícius underwent tests that found “an injury to the right biceps femoris muscle,” the club said in a statement.
Real Madrid does not inform the recovery time, but, according to the Spanish press, Vini could be sidelined for a period of a month to a month and a half.
With that, the striker should miss the Brazilian national team at the start of the South American Qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, in the games against Bolivia (9 September) and Peru (13 September).
The CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) has not yet officially commented on the athlete’s problem, but coach Fernando Diniz should call another player to replace Vinicius.
The striker felt pain at the beginning of the game against Celta, which ended with Real’s victory by 1 to 0, for the third round of the Spanish Championship.
After receiving medical attention, the Brazilian returned to the field, but shortly afterwards he was replaced by Joselu, in the 17th minute of the first half.
“He felt a pain and we replaced him. We’ll see what he has in the next few hours, it’s a muscle pain. It doesn’t seem very serious,” said Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti after the match.
Ancelotti had said that the player would not be available for next weekend’s game against Getafe, but he hoped to recover the number 7 shirt after the dates of early September, which should not happen.
