New Delhi: Violence broke out in a protest by wrestlers at Delhi’s Jandar Mantar. It is reported that two people were injured.
Famous wrestlers like Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik have accused BJP MP and president of Indian Wrestling Federation Brij Bhushan Charan Singh of sexual harassment. They sat on the road last January and protested to take action against Brij Bhushan Charan Singh. Following this, the Union Sports Ministry, which intervened in the matter, set up a 6-member panel headed by famous boxer Mary Kom.
The committee conducted an inquiry and submitted its report to the Sports Ministry on the 5th. The details are yet to be released. Also, no further action has been taken against Brij Bhushan Charan Singh in connection with the complaint lodged at the Veernakes police station. In this case, Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and other players have been protesting since last 23rd.
Wrestlers have alleged that there was a scuffle during the protest at Jandar Mantar in Delhi for 11 days. They have alleged that some drunken Delhi Police uniforms assaulted them and particularly harassed the female wrestlers. Two people were injured in the violence. One of them has been taken to hospital.
This is the first time people have witnessed violence at Jandar Mantar, the protest site of the national capital.
Footage of Delhi Police arguing with wrestlers is emerging. Due to this, the Jantar Mantar protest field has become busy.
