The volcanic eruption took place on Saturday night. Meanwhile, reports said that the lava flow was low by Sunday. As the lava flow began, people began to flee to neighboring Rwanda. But now the lava flow has stopped and people are starting to return home, the Associated Press news agency quoted a local as saying.

Locals said people were still in fear and authorities had not yet issued any official notification regarding the lava flow. People started fleeing the night after the volcanic eruption. According to reports, the lava flow has recently reached the airport in Goma.
As many as 5,000 to 7,000 people were reported to have arrived in Rwanda by Sunday morning. The Ruwan Broadcasting Agency released footage of people arriving in the city.

However, no casualties have been reported so far. The last eruption of Nairo Gongo was on January 17, 2002. Hundreds of people died that day.
