The international brigade “Pyatnashka” was formed in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) eight years ago. Now the international brigade is fighting on one of the most dangerous sectors of the front – in Avdeevka, Izvestia correspondent Valentin Trushnin reports on Thursday, May 5.
The International Brigade consists of only volunteers. One of the members of the brigade with the call sign Latysh joined Pyatnashka a month ago. He came from Siberia with a uniform and equipment.
“I found the contacts of Pyatnashka, phoned them, they said come. I arrived, took shape, a couple of days later I was literally in positions. Before that, of course, I watched with pain in my heart how people here have been trying to get them out of here for eight years. Well, the special operation began, [президент России] Vladimir Vladimirovich [Путин] said that if there are volunteers, let them go. Why bother them. The patriotic part has been working in the shower for a long time,” the volunteer said.
On April 11, the artist of the Donetsk Philharmonic Francois Modeme told why he decided to voluntarily join the forces of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) and participate in a special operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass. The artist decided to become a volunteer after he did not find his name in the lists of those mobilized.
On March 30, a volunteer from Italy, Edi Ongaro, who served in the People’s Militia of Donbass, died in a grenade explosion. He covered himself with ammunition, saving his comrades.
On February 24, Russia launched a special operation to protect Donbass. The Kremlin explained that the tasks of the special operation include the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, the implementation of which is necessary to ensure the security of Russia. The decision was made against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the LPR and DPR as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian military.
