Companies that are engaged in augmented and virtual reality technologies can count on state support, Izvestia was told in the Ministry of Digital Development. The developers of such solutions have the right to apply for grants allocated as part of the support of the IT industry, the department explained. VR and AR technologies are used in medicine, military and engineering industries.
Due to difficulties with importing equipment, the Russian market for VR and AR technologies may sink by 30-40%, Oleg Rudzeit, an expert at the Competence Center of the National Technology Initiative “Neurotechnologies, Virtual and Augmented Reality Technologies” based on FEFU, estimated for Izvestia. However, this area can be supported at the state level.
“VR- and AR-technologies can be part of solutions applying for grant support, while the solutions themselves must correspond to one of the priorities, including the most popular classes of software,” the ministry told Izvestia.
Grant support for promising developments of domestic IT solutions from the federal budget is provided for by a package of measures to support the industry, adopted in early March. The Ministry of Digital Development did not specify what amounts are involved. They added that grants will be allocated based on support priorities, which must be approved by the presidium of the government commission for digital development.
